Santa Maria della Pieta

Built on the site where the local population of Abruzzo defeated a band of brigands, is the Church of Santa Maria della Pieta (Calascio). Construction started on the church in 1596. This picture captures a sunrise over the church on a cool Fall morning.

Rocco Calascio

Evening shot of Rocco Calascio. This castle was built in the 10th century as a military watchtower with only one tower. Over the years, the other towers were added. The castle was never tested in battle. Sadly, in 1461, it was severely damaged by a magnitude 7/8 earthquake.
